91成人导航入口鈥檚 continued partnership with The King Center

91成人导航入口’s partnership with continues to provide students with unique opportunities to explore leadership, service and community transformation through the lens of Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence.

This year, 91成人导航入口 has two students who will participate in The King Center Scholars Program: Tinbite Makonnen 鈥29 and Rachel Williams 鈥28.

The faculty fellow, Amanda Whooley, associate professor of philosophy, was selected and will begin her work next year.

The King Center Scholars Program is an experiential learning program grounded in 狈辞苍惫颈辞濒别苍肠别365庐 (NV365), The King Center’s educational initiative that applies Dr. King’s nonviolent philosophy and methodology to contemporary challenges. Through training, discussions with King Center practitioners, volunteer service and independent projects, scholars develop practical skills for creating positive change in their communities.

鈥淲e are deeply grateful for The King Center鈥檚 continued trust in our academic leadership, faculty and students,鈥 said Kendra King Momon, associate provost. 鈥淭his year, we are expanding that opportunity through two student scholars, a faculty fellow, and a variety of courses including micro courses focused on Kingian Nonviolence and Leadership.鈥

The partnership, launched in 2025, reflects a shared commitment to preparing thoughtful leaders equipped to address complex social issues through dialogue, understanding and action.

As student participants in this year鈥檚 program, Makonnen and Williams will spend the academic year exploring how nonviolence can serve as a framework for leadership and social impact while connecting with fellow scholars from other partner institutions, including Duke University, Mercer University, Louisiana State University, and Ambassador College of Technology & Management in Nigeria.

Williams, a sociology major and women鈥檚, gender, and sexuality studies minor, learned about the program from last year鈥檚 cohort.

鈥淚 am thrilled and honored to be a part of The King Center Scholars Program cohort this year,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 am most excited about being able to engage with Dr. Martin Luther King鈥檚 philosophy and legacy while also bringing awareness to the importance of nonviolent social change in present-day.鈥

Similarly, Makonnen, a sophomore accounting major, shared her experience working with The King Center through her high school, and is happy now to be returning in a new capacity.

鈥淥ver the next year, I am most excited to deepen my understanding of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.鈥檚 legacy and to explore the question, 鈥榃hy is nonviolence the way of life?鈥欌 she said. 鈥淎s an accounting major, I am also interested in learning how these principles can carry into the professional world. Accounting is a field built on trust, integrity, accountability and ethical decision-making, and I want to understand how Dr. King鈥檚 principles can influence the way I approach my future career and the way I lead and serve others.鈥

The King Center Scholars Program is one of several initiatives of 91成人导航入口’s partnership with The King Center, which continues to create opportunities for students, faculty, and the broader community to engage with Dr. King’s enduring legacy of justice, peace and nonviolent social change.

鈥91成人导航入口’s partnership with The King Center will be deepened with the addition of the faculty fellowship and course offerings on Dr. King鈥檚 legacy,鈥 said Gabriel Barrenche, provost and vice president for academic affairs. 鈥淲e are excited by the possibilities offered by this collaboration to advance our institutions鈥 shared goals.鈥
